Sri Lanka, Jan. 16 -- A man claiming to be a former soldier staged a protest by climbing an electricity lamp post in Galle Face, alleging that he had been assaulted by six police officers attached to the Kelaniya Police Station near the historic Kelaniya Temple. Personnel from the 1990 Emergency Ambulance Service arrived at the scene to ensure the protester's safety and to provide medical assistance if required.

Despite repeated requests from the Police, the man initially refused to climb down, stating that he had no confidence that justice would be served by the police.
