Sri Lanka, Aug. 5 -- A man was arrested in possession of eight national identity cards (NICs) during a search operation carried out in conjunction with the Kandy Esala Perahera, Kandy Division Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anuruddha Bandaranayake said.
According to police, the suspect was operating a communications centre on D.S. Senanayake Street in Kandy, where the NICs were discovered.
Speaking at a media briefing held at the Kandy Police Headquarters yesterday (04), SSP Bandaranayake stated that the suspect had claimed that the cards were left behind by customers who had come for services at the centre. Investigations are ongoing to verify this claim and determine if any criminal activity is involved.
