Sri Lanka, Aug. 26 -- A shooting incident was reported on Beach Road in Matara last night (25), police said.

According to police, a suspect who arrived in a car had opened fire at the owner of a restaurant before fleeing the scene. The intended target, however, was not injured in the incident.

Police said the suspect engaged in a scuffle with the restaurant owner before escaping. A pistol believed to have been used in the shooting, along with four live rounds of ammunition and an empty cartridge case, was recovered from the scene.

The motive behind the attack and the identity of the suspect have not yet been established. Matara Police have launched further investigations into the incident.
