Sri Lanka, Aug. 13 -- The Kandy Esala Perahera festival begins today (13) with the planting of the 'Kap' at the auspicious time of 6.17 am across the Four Maha Devalayas.

Following the planting of the Kap, internal devalaya peraheras will be held within the Natha, Vishnu, Kataragama, and Pattini devalayas for five consecutive days.

After the five-day internal processions, the first Kumbal Perahera will parade the streets on the 18.The Kumbal Perahera will run from August 18 to 22. Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela stated that the Randoli Perahera will begin thereafter, with the Final Randoli Maha Perahera parading the streets on 27, which coincides with the Nikini Full Moon Poya Day.
