Sri Lanka, July 16 -- A group of representatives of the Democratic United Opposition met with the United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator in Colombo, MarcAndre Franche yesterday (15) to brief him on proposed reforms in the judiciary and its transparency and concerns about the Negombo Prison riot which left 33 people dead, including 10 prison officers, which they have described as critical issues facing the country.

Speaking to the media after the meeting yesterday (15), Professor G. L. Peiris said the Opposition had conveyed strong objections to the Government's proposed judicial reforms and criticised the lack of transparency, noting that the Government had not issued any clear statement on the nature or purpose of the reforms.
