Sri Lanka, Oct. 10 -- Kolkata-based Indian novelist Amitav Ghosh, widely considered a frontrunner for the 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature, did not win the prestigious award, which was announced on Thursday. Hungarian writer Laszlo Krasznahorkai, known for his philosophical and darkly humorous novels, received the honour for his "compelling and visionary oeuvre."

Despite missing out, literary critics and fans alike say Ghosh's contribution to contemporary literature remains unparalleled, and millions of readers around the world continue to enjoy his works.
