Hundred new cancer patients detected daily - Director
Sri Lanka, June 22 -- Around 100 new cancer patients are identified daily, and about 40 people pass away each day due to this disease, National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) Director Dr. Senaka Thalagala said.
He said every year, 35,000 new cancer patients are added to the total number of cancer patients in the country. He also stated that while many cancers can be prevented and cured through treatment, unfortunately, around 15,000 cancer patients die in the country each year.
Dr. Thalagala expressed these views while raising awareness about the measures taken by the Health Ministry's National Cancer Control Programme to minimise the number of people contracting and dying from cancer.
