Sri Lanka, Oct. 20 -- A 72-year-old woman was rescued by residents after a fire broke out at her home in the Rendapolawatta, Divuldeniya area of the Giriullagama Grama Sevaka Division on yesterday evening,Nalla Police said.

According to reports, a neighbor noticed smoke coming from the house and alerted others in the area. Acting swiftly, residents entered the house and managed to bring the woman, who was found lying in the kitchen, to safety. Police officers from the Nalla Police Station also joined efforts to extinguish the fire.

The victim, identified as Mulasinghe Arachchilage Kusumalatha, sustained no serious injuries, though her house was extensively damaged.
