Sri Lanka, Feb. 20 -- Roughly 897,802 SIM cards were flagged as having no identified individual owner, Digital Economy Deputy Minister Eranga Weeraratne told Parliament yesterday.
In addition 245,811 accounts were listed under corporate, rather than personal, identities, making individual tracing difficult. He made this statement while participating in the debate on the Judicature (Amendment) Bill -Second Reading and the Poisons, Opium and Dangerous Drugs (Amendment) Bill - Second Reading.
The presence of such a high number of improperly registered cards, including those under corporate, allows for misuse by criminals, necessitating stricter enforcement and the implementation of new telecommunications amendment.
