Sri Lanka, Oct. 27 -- A 32-year-old Indian national was arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake yesterday (26) by officers of the Customs Narcotics Control Division for attempting to smuggle heroin worth Rs. 34 million into Sri Lanka.

The suspect arrived from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Sri Lankan Airlines flight UL-315 at 4:15 p.m., carrying 2 kilograms and 832 grams of heroin in his luggage.

Investigations revealed that this was his first visit to Sri Lanka and that he intended to hand over the drugs to local operatives at a hotel in Colombo's Bambalapitiya area.
