Sri Lanka, Sept. 17 -- Heavy showers above 50 mm are likely in parts of Galle, Matara, Kalutara and Ratnapura districts today(17), the Department of Meteorology said.

Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces, while several spells of showers are expected in the North Western Province and in Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Uva and Eastern provinces, as well as in Mullaittivu and Polonnaruwa districts, after 1.00 p.m.

The public has been advised to take adequate precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
