Sri Lanka, Oct. 5 -- Heavy downpours swept across the western slopes of the Central hills, causing a mound of earth to collapse onto the Hatton-Colombo main road in the Diyagala area and restricting traffic to a single lane.

Watawala Police OIC Chief Inspector Chandana Gamage stated that the incident occurred following torrential rains that battered the Hatton, Bogawantalawa, and Ginigathena regions.

The Norwood office of the Road Development Authority (RDA) was promptly notified to deploy heavy machinery and clear the earth mound from the thoroughfare.
