Sri Lanka, Oct. 21 -- The Department of Meteorology has issued a red warning for heavy rainfall across several parts of Sri Lanka.
The warning is effective from 9:00 AM today (21 October) for the next 24 hours and covers the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northwestern, Southern, and Northern provinces, as well as the Anuradhapura district.
Officials stated that a disturbance in the lower atmosphere east of the island has developed into a low-pressure area, which is moving westward toward the north-west near Sri Lanka.
As a result, very heavy rainfall exceeding 150 mm is expected in the affected regions. The public is advised to remain cautious and take necessary safety measures.
