Srilanka, Aug. 28 -- The Department of Meteorology has forecast showers for several parts of the island today, with fairly heavy falls expected in some areas, according to the forecast issued at 5.30 a.m. on 28 August 2026.

Showers are likely at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-western provinces, as well as in the Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, and in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts, could see fairly heavy falls exceeding 75 mm.

The Uva province and the Ampara and Batticaloa districts may experience showers or thundershowers at a few places after 2.00 p.m., the department said. Mainly dry weather is expected elsewhere on the island.
