SriLanka, Sept. 24 -- The Department of Meteorology has forecast heavy rainfall for several provinces and warned naval and fishing communities against venturing into parts of the Bay of Bengal, as a Deep Depression moves towards the Indian coast, according to forecasts issued today (24).

The Deep Depression, located over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, was moving west-northwestwards and crossing the North Andhra Pradesh and adjoining South Odisha coasts of India, the department said. While the system will not directly affect Sri Lanka, wind flow towards it is expected to sustain rainy conditions in the south-western part of the island.
