Sri Lanka, July 31 -- The Meteorology Department yesterday (30) said the southwest monsoon has become active, with rainy conditions expected across the southwestern part of the country over the next few days.

A department representative told the media that the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North Western Provinces, along with the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts, will experience rain and higher rainfall at night. The Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces, and the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts, are expected to receive heavy rainfall exceeding 50mm, with conditions likely to worsen over the next few days.
