Sri Lanka, Aug. 14 -- Estate workers travelling from Hatton to Wigton Estate via Ruwanpura are facing severe hardship after a section of a concrete bridge located two kilometres short of the destination collapsed due to heavy rains currently affecting the area.

As a result bus services on this route are now restricted to the point of the collapse.

Hatton is the nearest town for residents across five sections of the Wigton Estate, and approximately six private buses operate along this route daily to serve the area.

Affected workers from the Hatton-Wigton Estate said the bridge had collapsed previously, at which time they had jointly carried out temporary repairs to allow bus services to operate, but that they are now unable to repair it...
