Sri Lanka, June 19 -- Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananda Wijepala said that a comprehensive national mechanism has been established to combat the drug menace, with Security Forces intensifying efforts to disrupt narcotics supply chains, while rehabilitation and public awareness programmes are being accelerated to control addiction to drugs.

The Minister made these remarks while addressing a progress review meeting of the Kandy District under the Ratama Ekata national operation against illicit drugs held at the Kandy District Secretariat. Agriculture, Lands, Irrigation and Livestock Minister Lalkantha also attended the meeting. The Kandy District Operations Council was recently established under his chairmanship.
