Sri Lanka, Aug. 12 -- The government plans to construct 730 new housing units in Colombo at an estimated cost of Rs. 7.8 billion, targeting low-income earners, including residents of estate-line rooms in the city's plantation sector. The two projects will be located on Green Path and Torrington Avenue, reviving previously halted housing developments. They will be implemented under the reactivated Urban Regeneration Project. The Green Path project will comprise 615 housing units, while the Torrington Avenue project will include 115 units. Construction is expected to be completed within 2.5 years.
Budgetary provisions for these projects have been allocated for the period from 2026 to 2028.
