Srilanka, Aug. 1 -- Government revenue recorded a strong increase during the first six months of 2026, supported by improved tax collection across all major revenue agencies and the recovery in motor vehicle imports. Total Government revenue increased by 27 percent to Rs. 2,954.2 billion, compared to Rs. 2,321.7 billion in the corresponding period of 2025.

The increase in revenue was largely driven by higher collections from taxes on motor vehicle imports, which significantly strengthened the performance of Sri Lanka Customs. Customs collected 59 percent of its annual revenue target during the first half of the year and emerged as the largest contributor to Government tax revenue, accounting for 48 percent of total collections.
