Government moves to fast-track food container clearance to cut costs and protect consumers
Sri Lanka, June 30 -- The government has launched measures to significantly reduce the time taken to release imported food containers from Sri Lanka's ports, with the aim of lowering costs for importers, improving supply chain efficiency and ultimately easing the financial burden on consumers.
The initiative was discussed at a high-level meeting chaired by Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Safety and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe at the Ministry, where government agencies involved in food imports and representatives of food importers examined the bottlenecks delaying customs clearance.
