Sri Lanka, July 22 -- The Government has initiated measures to regulate the use of toxic chemicals in fruit ripening following a growing number of consumer complaints over chemically ripened fruits being sold in the local market.

A high-level discussion convened by Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe was held at the Ministry on Monday (20)to explore immediate measures to prevent the use of harmful chemicals in ripening fruits such as bananas, mangoes and guavas.
