Sri Lanka, March 24 -- It is with much sadness that we share news of the passing of Lasantha Abayawardane nee Alwis who was a senior team member in the editorials of the Sunday Observer and Daily News.Newspaper Delivery Service

Lasantha's long history in journalism started at the Sun newspaper as a sub editor. She edited the special reports, features and business pages and sometimes the world news page. While she was at the Sun, she went to England as a recipient of the Commonwealth Press Union Fellowship.

After she left the Sun, Lasantha or Las as she was fondly known, joined the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd (ANCL), sharing her expertise as a sub editor first at the Sunday Observer and then the Daily News. She edited and spruced...
