Sri Lanka, June 19 -- Sri Lanka Customs said that an extensive investigation has been launched into the 26 passengers who attempted to illegally smuggle gold to India on the passenger ship 'SG 423', which was scheduled to sail from Kankesanthurai Port to Nagapattinam, India, Wednesday (17).

Sri Lanka Customs Media Spokesperson Chandana Punchihewa said that the group was arrested in a raid conducted based on reliable intelligence information received by Customs officers. Customs further said that among the 26 people arrested were 17 Indian nationals and nine Sri Lankans, six of whom were women.
