Sri Lanka, Aug. 25 -- The Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) has suspended the island-wide strike that was scheduled to begin this morning (25).
The GMOA had earlier announced trade union action from 8 am today, citing several issues, including concerns over the doctors' transfer process.
However, following a special discussion held last night with Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa and the Secretary to the Ministry of Health, the union decided to suspend the strike. GMOA Secretary Dr. Prabath Sugathadasa stated that the decision was made after the Minister provided a written assurance to address the association's key demands.
