Sri Lanka, Oct. 1 -- The National Secretariat for Persons with Disabilities, under the Ministry of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment, has planned to conduct a free sign language training course for journalists.

The proposal was presented to the National Council for Persons with Disabilities yesterday (30), chaired by Minister Dr. Upali Pannila, and received the Council's approval.

Arrangements are underway to conduct the training and award certificates before the end of this year. The programme aims to improve communication with persons with disabilities through the mass media and strengthen the media's role in promoting an inclusive society.

Journalists will be informed about the programme in due course.
