Sri Lanka, May 8 -- Deniyaya Zonal Education Director Nishaka Hettigoda said authorities had decided to close four schools in the Deniyaya zone for students on May 7 and 8 due to a rapidly spreading viral fever among children in the Kotapola Medical Officer of Health division.

She noted that officials had closed the Deniyaya Central College, Deniyaya Rajapaksa Maha Vidyalaya, Deniyaya St. Matthew's Bilingual School, and Pallegama Siddhartha Vidyalaya for students only.

The Zonal Education Director added that they arrived at this decision subject to recommendations from health authorities and approval from the Southern Province Governor.
