Sri Lanka, Sept. 15 -- The former Chairman of the Wattegama Urban Council and a businessman were arrested last week by the Central Criminal Investigation Division for allegedly importing and illegally registering two jeeps with the Motor Traffic Department using forged documents.

The suspects were brought before Theldeniya Acting Magistrate Kumari Karalliyadde, who ordered them to be remanded until today (September 15).

Ravindra Bandara, 58, the former chairman of the Wattegama Urban Council, was one of the men arrested. Police investigations revealed that he was elected to the council under the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and served as Chairman from 2018 to 2022.
