Sri Lanka, Aug. 21 -- The Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court today (22) ordered former President Ranil Wickremesinghe to be remanded until August 26.
He was arrested and produced before court by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over allegations of misusing state funds amounting to Rs. 17 million for a visit to the United Kingdom.
The bail application filed on his behalf was taken up before Colombo Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura.
Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, appearing for the CID, told the court that evidence would be presented against the suspect under the Public Property Act and requested that he be remanded as investigations are not yet complete.
