Sri Lanka, March 9 -- Former Member of Parliament Sajin Vass Gunawardena has been arrested by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption over allegations of acquiring illicit assets worth Rs. 243.8 million.

The arrest took place this morning (09) when Gunawardena arrived at the Commission to provide a statement regarding the ongoing investigation.

According to officials, the former MP had appeared before the Bribery Commission earlier today to give a statement related to the alleged unlawful acquisition of assets. Further legal proceedings are expected to follow.
