Former Horana UNP MC member remanded over Rs.160 Mn fraud
Sri Lanka, July 20 -- A former Horana Municipal Councillor representing the United National Party (UNP) has been remanded until July 21 after being arrested over an alleged financial fraud involving six textile traders from Pettah.
Police alleged that the suspect obtained nearly Rs.160 million from the businessmen by issuing cheques that were dishonoured. Investigators said the woman had allegedly been evading the traders for some time. Reportedly, a confrontation reportedly broke out at the UNP headquarters, Sirikotha, on Friday (18), where the businessmen had gone after receiving information that she was present there.
Mirihana Police intervened and brought the situation under control before recording statements from the complainants....
