Sri Lanka, July 30 -- Attorney Lal Kumarapeli said the Government's proposal to extend the retirement age of judges by two years is part of a broader programme of judicial and legal reforms promised during the Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

Speaking at a media briefing organised by Lawyers for the Public Mandate (LPM) in Gampaha yesterday (29), Kumarapeli said the Government had pledged wide-ranging democratic reforms across all sectors, including the judicial and legal systems.

He said the proposed constitutional amendment should be seen as part of the broader effort to modernise the country's justice system.
