Sri Lanka, Feb. 19 -- Engineers in charge of the reservoirs said that the water levels in the Castlereagh and Maussakelle reservoirs are dropping rapidly due to the extreme dry weather prevailing in the western slopes of the Central Highlands these days.

As of 6 am today (19), the Maussakelle reservoir has dropped by 27 feet 6 inches from the overflow level and the Castlereagh reservoir by 26 feet 11 inches from the overflow level.

Electricity is generated at the Wimalasurendra, Canyon, Laxapana, New Laxapana and Polpitiya hydroelectric power stations using water drawn from the Castlereagh and Maussakelle reservoirs.
