Sri Lanka, May 11 -- The Director General of Health Services (DGHS) has decided to suspend Dr. O.V.G.L. Weerasena, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the Trincomalee District General Hospital, who also serves as the President of the hospital's Government Medical Officers' Association branch and Dr. S.A.N.D. Siyambalapitiya, a Senior House Officer at the same hospital, following several acts of alleged misconduct, including neglecting duties during working hours to serve at a private hospital.

The Health Ministry launched a preliminary investigation following the death of a newborn during a delivery at the hospital on April 9, a day when the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) was conducting a strike.
