Defence Secretary calls for maintaining Indian Ocean as a Zone of Peace
Sri Lanka, June 1 -- Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Sampath Thuyacontha participated in the 'XIV International Meeting of High-Ranking Officials Responsible for Security Matters' held in Moscow, Russia, on Thursday (28), where he addressed emerging global security challenges in the context of a multipolar world order.
During his address, the Defence Secretary emphasised the growing geopolitical significance of the Indian Ocean and stressed the importance of maintaining the region as a zone of peace, co-operation and shared prosperity. He highlighted the need to uphold freedom of navigation, respect for international law and constructive dialogue among nations to prevent regional rivalries from escalating into confrontation.
