Deer shot by poacher rescued by Wildlife officers
Sri Lanka, July 30 -- A spotted deer that had come to drink water at the Muniyandi Wewa near the Hela Kala Gammanaya in Polonnaruwa was shot and injured by an unidentified poacher on the Esala Full Moon Poya Day, according to officials of the Manampitiya Wildlife Office.
The incident is reported to have occurred at around 12 noon yesterday (29).
Villagers who noticed the injured deer immediately informed wildlife officials.
Officers from the Manampitiya Wildlife Office with the assistance of residents, rescued the wounded animal. The deer was later transported to the Giritale Wildlife Veterinary Unit for emergency treatment.
