Customs seize cigarettes worth Rs. 4.2 Mn
Sri Lanka, June 30 -- A stock of foreign cigarettes valued at Rs. 4.2 million which was brought into the country illegally by a foreign national will be confiscated by Sri Lanka Customs.
The decision was taken after Customs officers arrested the foreign national and conducted an investigation.
On inspecting his luggage, 140 cartons of foreign cigarettes with 28,000 cigarettes were found.
The suspect arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport on June 28 at around 19:11 hours on a flight from China. According to the Customs investigation, he is an employee of a private sector business establishment.
