Sri Lanka, April 20 -- The Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, Kamal Amarasinghe, has been granted bail by the Pilessa Magistrate's Court in Kurunegala after being produced before court in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in vehicle registration.

He was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on March 27 following investigations carried out by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division. The case concerns allegations that he aided and abetted the fraudulent registration of a vehicle by facilitating the alteration of a cab's chassis number.

Police said the arrest was made as part of a wider probe into suspected malpractice linked to vehicle registration procedures.
