Sri Lanka, Aug. 12 -- Construction of commercial-scale battery energy systems, planned to connect 16 electricity transmission substations in the country, are currently in the final stages. The work on the project, constructed by WindForce PLC near the Anuradhapura substation, is 85% complete.

During the day, excess electricity generated by the solar systems is stored by the substation in these battery systems.

At night, the stored electricity is fed back into the national grid through the substation as needed. This will prevent the national power grid from becoming unstable and minimise the electricity generated from diesel power plants at night.
