Sri Lanka, Sept. 2 -- The Government has decided to appoint a review committee to revise and update the country's primary public health legislation, the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance No. 3 of 1897.
The announcement was made by Cabinet Spokesman, Health and Mass Media Minister, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa at the weekly cabinet press briefing.
Addressing reporters, Dr.Jayatissa emphasised that while the 19th-century Ordinance remains the legal framework governing communicable disease outbreaks and quarantine enforcement, its provisions are no longer adequate for modern health threats.
