Sri Lanka, Oct. 13 -- The Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) has revealed that unpaid assessment tax arrears in the Colombo Municipal Council area amount to over Rs.4 billion.

This was revealed when CMC officials appeared before COPA recently at the Parliament Complex for meeting. The COPA was chaired by Member of Parliament Kabir Hashim. The Chairman of the Committee, Member of Parliament Kabir Hashim, expressed his displeasure over the large amount of outstanding tax arrears.

He said that recommendations made last February stated that Rs. 610 million in arrears should be paid from the Fort division alone and that the Municipal Council had agreed to increase efforts to recover these arrears.
