Sri Lanka, Sept. 10 -- Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga Bodaragama yesterday (9) granted permission to the Criminal Investigation Department to obtain a statement from Shadhika Lakshani, the wife of Backhoe Saman, who is currently remanded in custody subsequent to being produced before Court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, on Monday.

The Criminal Investigation Department filed a motion and made this request. The Chief Magistrate ordered the Prison Superintendent to provide the Criminal Investigation Department with the required facilities to take a statement from the suspect. The suspect has been remanded until September 18.
