Sri Lanka, June 24 -- The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a series of measures to address growing social, economic and administrative challenges stemming from illegal land grabbing, unauthorised land-filling and unlawful coastal constructions in the Eastern Province, Cabinet Spokesman and Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said.

Addressing the weekly Cabinet media briefing yesterday (23), he said these activities, often driven by the abuse of political influence and patronage, have caused severe environmental degradation and accelerated coastal erosion along the eastern seaboard.
