Sri Lanka, June 4 -- The Cabinet of Ministers approved a proposal to rehabilitate and upgrade sections of the lighting system along the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway at an estimated cost of nearly Rs. 1.1 billion.

Speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing yesterday (2), Cabinet Spokesman and Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said the expressway's lighting infrastructure, including the Kerawalapitiya Interchange, has suffered extensive damage due to repeated acts of vandalism and theft, largely attributed to drug addicts. As a result, approximately 85 percent of the lighting system is currently out of operation.
