Sri Lanka, Oct. 1 -- The Court of Appeal yesterday decided to dismiss the writ petition filed by Sarvajana Balaya Party leader MP Dilith Jayaweera challenging the legality of a complaint lodged by the Colombo Fort Magistrate in connection with contempt of court proceedings.

A three-judge bench of the Court of Appeal, comprising Court of Appeal President Justice Rohantha Abeysuriya, Justice Chamath Morayas and Justice Adithya Patabendige unanimously decided to dismiss this writ petition at the inception.

The contempt of court proceedings were initiated before the Court of Appeal against six individuals, including Dilith Jayaweera, based on a complaint filed by Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena. The Magistrate alleged that certain s...
