Sri Lanka, Oct. 4 -- The Penal Code Amendment Bill on corporal punishment for children has not been passed into law by Parliament, Justice and National Integration Minister Harshana Nanayakkara said.
The Minister made this clarification in a statement to the media regarding the draft bill, which aims to amend Chapter 19 of the Penal Code concerning physical punishment for children.
The debate for the Second Reading of the amendment bill was held on September 24. However, the bill was adjourned without being passed into law. The Minister explained that the bill was not enacted because its provisions require a corresponding amendment to the Code of Criminal Procedure to take effect.
