Sri Lanka, Oct. 21 -- The Baddegama area recorded the highest rainfall in the past 12 hours, ending at 6 a.m. today, with 167 mm, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) reported. Other areas also experienced heavy showers, including Walallawita (132 mm), Wathurawila (126.4 mm), and Elpitiya (108 mm). Several locations, such as Rambukkana, Dehiovita, Welipitiya, Eheliyagoda, Kiriella, Haldumulla, and Horowpathana, received between 50 and 100 mm of rain.
Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology has announced that a low-level atmospheric disturbance located to the east of the island has intensified into a low-pressure area. The system is developing further and is likely to move west-northeastwards near Sri Lanka.
