Sri Lanka, June 12 -- Sri Lanka records an average of eight road fatalities every day, with the figure rising to as many as 10 deaths on certain days, according to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic Control and Road Safety, W.P.J. Senadheera.

Speaking at a special Media briefing held at the Government Information Department yesterday (11), he revealed that fatal road accidents have increased by 5% compared to last year, while the number of deaths resulting from those crashes has surged by 19%. Young people aged between 18 and 25 account for the majority of victims, with motorcycles and three-wheelers being involved in a significant proportion of fatal incidents.
