Sri Lanka, June 3 -- Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath says Australian airlines are expected to commence direct flights to Sri Lanka from August, marking a significant development in air connectivity between the two countries.

The Minister noted that the introduction of direct services by Australian carriers is expected to strengthen tourism, trade and people-to-people ties while providing greater travel convenience for passengers.

SriLankan Airlines currently operates direct flights between Sri Lanka and the Australian cities of Sydney and Melbourne, serving as a key link between the two nations.
