Sri Lanka, Aug. 20 -- The Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court has rejected an anticipatory bail application filed by former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon, aimed at preventing his arrest.

The application, filed by the former IGP's attorneys, was considered by Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura this morning (20).

Tennakoon sought anticipatory bail after being named as an additional accused in the attack during the Galle Face Aragalaya.

In her ruling, Magistrate Lankapura stated that the court cannot consider a bail application from a suspect who has previously evaded the court. She added that it is not justified to evade the court while being named in an ongoing case.
